October Spooktacular: I Love You

First, I apologize for not posting any features yesterday… but I have a good excuse.  My Little Monkey thought it would be fun to shove a bobby pin in his ear.  Like way far in his ear.  Fabulous, right?!?  So, I was dealing with that.

This is a super simple, cheap, and effective way to keep those love flames a-burnin’.  Make your sweetie their own special jack-o-lantern.  I use a cheap pumpkin from the Dollar Store. You could easily do this with a small real pumpkin.  And they aren’t terribly expensive.

Carve the pumpkin as you would a real pumpkin… bonus… you don’t have to clean out the guts!  Wooo!  You may have to pull out the vacuum cleaner to get all the styrofoam off the floor though.  Put a FLAMELESS candle in the pumpkin and TA-DA!  What a cute little love note!  Please don’t burn your house down by using a real candle!
Another quick and easy love note:  Candy Corn love notes!  Yummmm.  I just laid this out in my hubby’s favorite chair.  When he came home from work and sat down to relax… there was candy in his seat.  I will admit it was rather hard to keep the little monkey out of it until hubby came home.  Boy after my own heart.  =]

October Spooktacular: Spiderweb Nachos

Not sure where I found the idea for this, but I did it the first Halloween we were married and it has since become tradition.  Some time in October we HAVE to eat Spiderweb Nachos!  YUMMY!  I usually just make one big plate and me and My Mr Right share, but this would be super easy to break into smaller portions and make individual sizes.

SPIDERWEB NACHOS

30 or so Tortilla chips
1/4 c of cheese (I use whatever is in the fridge)
1/2 can of re-fried beans
2 Roma tomatoes, diced
1 avocado, sliced or diced
chopped cilantro, optional
1/4 cup sour cream, in a zippy baggie
Layer the chips, re-fried beans, cheese, tomatoes, avocado and cilantro on a baking pan.  Put in the oven at 250 degrees for 5 minutes.  Just long enough to heat everything up and melt the cheese.  You can also put it on a plate and nuke it in the microwave for 30-45 seconds.  I’ve done both and both work.  If you use the oven method, transfer your nacho heap to a plate.  Take the sour cream in your zippy bag.  Cut the corner off.  Not too much, though.  It’ll make a bigger hole than you think.  At least it always does for me.  Draw the spokes of the spiderweb in a star shape.  Start in the middle and begin connecting the spokes with a droopy line to make the web.  Go all the way around and then do the same on the next layer, until you have run out of nachos to draw on.  Enjoy!

Craftsy ‘Cause I Can: Pumpkin Patch Tumblers

I have been converted to the art of glass etching.  I’ve actually done it before, but it’s been several years.  But it isn’t hard to remember, thank goodness!  This is my newest little treasure.  I am sorely tempted to keep them, but at the moment I don’t have anywhere to put them.  Our space is severely limited.  So, into the Etsy shop they go.

Like the concept, but not really your style?  Contact me and let’s see if we can make something just for you!

Announcing Weekend Wander!

I have had soo much fun hosting the Halloween Party this weekend.  There is a lot of really AMAZING stuff linked up.  If you haven’t checked it out, you really should!  Thanks so much to everyone who was kind enough to link.  We had an awesome turn out:  Over 100 links!  For my first party, I’m really impressed!  Thank you all so much for coming and for the support.  You have all totally made my week!

So, to celebrate, I am announcing a new weekly link party!  Party will go up at 6pm PST Friday night and close at 11:59pm PST on Sunday.  (Disclaimer: I may have to tweak this in the future.)  Come one, come all!  Come link whatever you want, as long as it’s FAMILY FRIENDLY!  These parties will post under the header or title of Weekend Wander!  As in, I’m sure it will cause me to wander all over cyber world.  Also, it’s casual, and that’s what I want this to be.  Just a place to show off your stuff, hang out, meet new people, share ideas and all that good stuff.  I’m going to save “Saturday Soiree” for party ideas.  There may be other themed parties in the future as well, listed under the Saturday Soiree title, so look out for those too!

In case you care to spread the word:

I'm Krista. Ringleader here on While He Was Napping, wife to my handsome Mr. Right & momma to my THREE energetic boys, Big J (9), Little J (6) & Little N (4). We FINALLY added a beautiful little girl to our family last December.

I’m knee-deep in Tonka trucks & Thomas trains. I survive our crazy days with Vanilla Coke, Sonic slushies, sweet snuggles and little giggles. When I tuck them in tight & kiss them good night, I get a little time to create & just be me.
