I’m Krista. This is my crew. I run this crazy show… and this blog. This is my story:
I grew up in Nevada, but was born in Utah. I graduated high school in 2005. In 2006, I moved to Idaho. And I met this guy with these amazing blue eyes… I was taking online college courses, but the school also had on-campus credit requirements I had to complete for my degree. That guy and I got to experience the joys and sorrows of long-distance dating. In February 2008, I married him and he is the love of my life and best friend, My Mr Right. I have loved every minute of married life. Okay, maybe not every single minute, but most of them.
We had our first baby in July 2009, a son. He is our Big J, my buddy and he keeps me laughing. I love being his momma. He is quick to learn and loves to figure out how things work. He is a little mini replica of his daddy, right down to those eyes that can get him out of all kinds of trouble. Our second little guy was born in February 2012. From day one he has had a huge appetite and threatens to eat us out of house and home. He is our Little J, and he is my dare devil. This boy has no fear and will climb anything he can possibly imagine. I hope that carries over to all the obstacles he may meet in life. He is full of mischief and adores being a brother. Baby N joined our little home in March 2014, a little earlier than expected, but it’s like he’s been here all along. He is growing like a weed and loves to play with his brothers. He’s the perfect combination of new discoveries, contagious giggles and perfect baby snuggles.
We bought a new home in May 2012 and have been slowly making it our own. I am the beauty of the projects and my husband is often the brains. He takes my dreams and schemes and makes them happen, then leaves me to make them into something pretty. He’s the function and I’m the form. We make a pretty awesome team.
HOW WHILE HE WAS NAPPING CAME ABOUT:
Shortly after Big J was born, a friend encouraged me to open an Etsy shop. I did, but didn’t have a lot of experience or business. Which turned out alright because it wasn’t long after the first few orders that our lives were turned upside down. After Mr. Napping and I married, we lived in Idaho for 2 years. In a whirlwind of events, and after almost two years of various employment statuses, my husband was offered a new, permanent, full-time job. In one weekend, he went from a full-time job with a small start-up company in a small Idaho farming town, to an unemployed weekend warrior with the National Guard, to chasing this new job back to my hometown. In five days, we had Big J packed up and moved to Nevada. He stayed with my parents while, in two weeks, we rented out our home, said goodbye to some amazing friends and family and moved to Nevada, leaving behind our first home with a loaded trailer and a lot of memories.
Mr Napping loves job he loves, but he travels a lot. And that’s when I really started to blog. I dusted off the site I’d started when I first opened my Etsy shop and got down to business. I’ve always been crafty and creative and While He Was Napping was my attempt to get my crafts off our family blog. It started out as advertising for my shop, but I soon realized that I enjoyed sharing craft posts and recipes so much more than price tags. About six months in, I discovered my love for digital design and web page development, which I adore! While He Was Napping is my journey to “Domestic Goddess” and my progress as a graphic designer.
We’ve lived in four homes in our six short years of marriage. I’ve lived in a lot of different situations, with various floor plans and roommates, and I’ve had to figure how to make it work all over again each time. But I’ve always loved taking time for some creativity. My boys require a lot of time and attention and they leave havoc in their wake, so my crafting, organizing, cleaning and creating often take place while my little guys are asleep. I’m slowly making our current house into a home. One project, one step, one adventure at a time.
In this sea of testosterone, this is my little island. It all happened while he was napping.
