In my house full of testosterone, I am up to my eyebrows in superheroes. It took Big J a little while to take interest in cape-clad heroes, but Little J is already smitten and Baby N is right on his heels. Confession: I rather love superheroes myself so I’m not at all disappointed in their adoration and it gives me a good excuse to indulge in the super-world on occasion. With MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron movie coming out this weekend, it seems almost everyone is excited about them.
We were at Wal-Mart last Saturday and there were all kinds of fun The Avengers items. We grabbed a few large action figure toys (that I have plans for in another project, stay tuned to get the dirt on that!) and some yummy superhero-laden Doritos.
But there’s more than just toys and treats. You can get exclusive info and fun activities with the Super Heroes Assemble app (available in the Play Store and the App Store)! It’s a fun app and my kids are in love – it was one time they didn’t whine the whole time we were running errands. Gather the troops and Avenger’s Unite!
MARVEL’S THE AVENGER’S: AGE OF ULTRON
Super Heroes Assemble App
Okay, let me show you some fun features of this app. Here we go! From the menu screen you’ll want to start off by unlocking exclusive content by scanning specific images at Wal-Mart, both in store and online at walmart.com/avengers. So, if you can’t get to the store, you can still play. I will be completely honest and tell you that sometimes I couldn’t get the images to scan at all in store with my Galaxy S4. I don’t know why, it’s like my camera wouldn’t focus and there wasn’t a way to try to set a focus point or focus it manually. However, Mr Napping’s Note 3 didn’t do too bad in store and our Note 10.1 tablet and my S4 did okay on the Wal-Mart website too. The scanning was a little glitchy, but it’s worth trying a couple (or more) times to get the exclusive content; that’s where the fun is! There are a couple of specific items you have to scan for some of the content (fruit snacks and Cheez-It crackers, specifically). My area Wal-Marts didn’t carry them and I was disappointed to miss out on that content. There’s still a lot you can get just online, but I wanted it all!
Once you have the exclusive content unlocked, the fun really begins. In the “Suit Up” portion of the app, you can take a selfie or switch the camera and have someone take a photo of you, like I did of Little J. Then you can add digital stickers to your photo. Little J thought this was the coolest thing ever. And, really, how often do you get to dress up as a superhero? It is pretty fun! My favorite are the Hulk hands!
In the “Movies” section, you can check out exclusive clips, trailers, photos and teasers to help you get all kinds of excited for the movie. Both my older boys liked to look at the photos. It’s a fun behind-the-scenes look at the movie set and filming process. I love the shot with all the Captain America shields!
This next one was my favorite. The “Characters” option opens up a screen dedicated to each character with a menu of characters across the top of the screen. As you scroll down, you’ll find a few different features, including a link back to the “suit up” activity and one to the “photo opp” activity I’ll get to in just a second. There’s also some cool character art, if you’re feeling like your phone or tablet could use a fun MARVEL’s The Avenger’s background. My favorites are the sound clips included with some of the characters… because it’s kind of fun to watch your Hulk roar text tone weird your mom out a little.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get to check out the “360” portion of the app. To unlock this content you have to scan a box of Kellogg’s MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron fruit snacks and they aren’t on the shelves of my local Wal-Mart yet. I’ll have to keep checking though, because it looks like fun!
The “Photo Opp” section was fun and a great way to get my kids to stop whining while I was trying to do some shopping. I couldn’t get it to scan with them in store on my S4, but Mr Napping’s Note 3 would get it occasionally and it gave him something to do with the boys while I finished up the last little bit of shopping. They had fun taking pictures with the different characters and I enjoyed shopping without the whining droning in the background.
The “Wishlist” feature allows you to save your favorite products to a wishlist for future reference on your next shopping trip. It’s pretty self-explanatory.
Overall, this app is a lot of fun. You have to be a little patient with it, but when you’re successful, it unlocks some cool stuff. So, next time you’re at Wal-Mart with a little extra time check out all the awesome MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron products and unlock some of the exclusive content on the Super Heroes Assemble app. My kids are loving it and I’m totally excited for the May 1st release of MARVEL’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron movie! It’s hard to choose just one favorite Avenger, so I’m glad they are all teaming up in this movie! Avengers Unite! Who is your favorite Avenger? Let me know in the comments!
