Superbowl XLVII PARTY!

Are you a football fan?  Our household is kind of funny… I’m the football fan, but I’m not even that big of a fan.  I love a good game, but I don’t really care who is playing and who wins.  I’m just there for the game.  Or, in the case of the Superbowl, for the commercials!  Mr Napping couldn’t care less about sports, which is a two-edge sword, but we always love a good party.  Especially when there’s good food!  And if the Superbowl isn’t notorious for delicious, hearty food then I don’t know what is (okay, maybe Thanksgiving… and Christmas…)

So, for all your Superbowl Sunday Party needs, click the images and check out these amazing ideas:

Superhero Onesies

I saw these… uhm, probably on Pinterest… and wanted some so bad.  Gator has no clue what superheroes are, but I do… and so does Little Monkey.  But, they were being sold for like $60! And I’m not sure if it was a legal use of the logos or not (some people care and some don’t), so I decided to just make them myself.  And when I did a search on Etsy, I couldn’t find them.  That was the clincher… besides, I’d been looking for a project to try out some heat transfer vinyl on and this was perfect!
SUPERHERO ONESIES

Materials:
– Blank onesies or T-shirts (I purchased mine from rockbottomtshirts.com and have been totally thrilled with their prices and quality)
– Heat transfer vinyl (I bought mine at expressionsvinyl.com.  Super quick shipping, great customer service and competitive prices, I’d recommend them)
– Iron.  Just your basic iron.
Directions:
– First and foremost, and don’t you dare skip this step, is wash your t-shirts!  Wash and dry them so that any shrinkage takes place before you adhere any vinyl.  Otherwise, it will mess up your t-shirts.  I promise.  Guess how I know this…………. so, just sayin’, WASH and DRY those babies.
– The next step is to cut out your vinyl.  I used my Cricut, but you could go as old school as scissors in cutting yours.  I will be totally honest, I spent hours (agonizing hours) designing the vinyl pieces and making sure I had the right shapes in all the right colors – I wasn’t sure it would be worth it.  But after I got the first shirt done, I was totally hooked.  The easyweed vinyl is super easy to use and, because the transfer tape is on the vinyl already, you can do really detailed images incredibly easily.  Just make sure you cut everything backwards!  There was some wording on one of Monkey’s shirts (I’ll show you those some other time) that I cut three times because I kept forgetting to flip it!  What a waste of vinyl!  You can download a PDF of my superhero shapes HERE because I’m super nice and my momma taught me to share.  The color of the shapes are indicative of the colors they should be cut out in.  The gray shapes should be cut from white vinyl.    Expressions Vinyl has some awesome tutorials on their site on using the heat transfer stuff and I highly recommend watching them before you start your project.
– Turn your iron on pretty much as hot as it will go and produce zero steam.  You don’t want any moisture.  It’ll mess up the adhesion of the vinyl.  When the iron is hot, iron the shirt where you plan to adhere your logo.
–  Lay your vinyl pieces down on the shirt and press them for 20 full seconds with the iron.  Use as much pressure as you can and work on a firm, steady surface.
–  After the 20 seconds, gently pull the transfer tape off.
–  Bask in the excitement and giddy of the masterpiece you just created.  (optional)

If you need further instruction, follow the link above to the video tutorials at Expressions Vinyl.  They are fabulous and walk you through everything.

I love the way these turned out and they made great stocking stuffers for Gator at Christmas.  Aside from the time it took to design the vinyl pieces, which I’ve already done for you, it was super, super easy.  And I do believe I have a new addiction.  I’m off to find more things to vinyl…

And don’t worry about Little Monkey… he’s got the superhero thing down too.  Just learned to fly…

{Project GO-FO} Cupboard Baskets

So, this organizing thing is going slower than I anticipated.  I think part of it is because I have two little munchkins that set me back three steps for every one step I take.  Sound familiar, anyone… anyone at all?  Anyway, I was hoping to kind of move room by room.  It’s turning into more of a project by project deal, rather than a whole room.  So, here’s one for the kitchen.  I was getting so frustrated with the spice situation in my cupboard.  The cupboards are tall, so I have trouble reaching much higher than the first level of shelves.  And everything was getting lost if it wasn’t right up front where I could see it.  So… I hung a few baskets for some extra storage.  Sorry for the awful glare in that first photo, the window is right there and was creating making it really difficult to get a decent photo.

  CUPBOARD ORGANIZER BASKETS

Materials:
– Baskets.  I used desk organizers I found at the Dollar Tree.
– Small 1/2 inch Screws
– Screwdriver
– Drill and small drill bit
– Pencil or Pen

Directions:
– Decide where you want the baskets to hang.  Make sure they don’t hit any shelves and take into account the width of your baskets.  You’ll lose that much storage space at the  front of the shelf when you shut the cupboard.  I also recommend making sure your baskets are long enough that they hit both of the thick borders of the cupboard door.  That will give you a better chance of not poking through the cupboard door with your screws.
–  Use your pencil or pen and mark the spots on your doors.  Use the small drill bit and drill just a little bit into the door.  Be careful not to poke through the other side of the door!
–  Carefully, screw the basket to the door.
–  Fill up your baskets.

For $6, I drastically improved the way I use our cupboards.  I keep all of our frequently used spices and other things right there, front and center, in the baskets.  Things don’t get lost at the back of the cupboards anymore because I can’t see everything.  With the baskets, when I open the doors it pulls out a third of the things on that shelf, making it SOOO much easier to see the things that are at the back.

Easy, cheap and super effective.  I am in L. O. V. E.

Printable Date Night Jar

So, last week I showed you what I made for Mr Napping for our 5th wedding anniversary in two weeks.  Don’t worry, he doesn’t read my blog so he’ll still be surprised.  You should check that out if you’re looking for a gift for your someone special… Valentine’s Day is coming up (wink, wink).

If you’re looking for something a little less time consuming – because painting 52 little wood sticks was just that – you’ll love what I have for you today.  I’ve been out of the printable scene for a while and I think this is a great little freebie to jump back in with.  You’ll be able to make a gift for your someone special for practically FREE!

PRINTABLE DATE NIGHT JAR

Printable-Date-Night-Jar

Materials:

– Jar
– Free PDF of the Jar Label and Date Ideas.
– Glue or tape
– Baker’s Twine or other string (optional)
– Spray paint or scrapbook paper (optional)

Directions:
1.  Gather your jar and print off your printed PDF (just click the link above).  I recommend printing these off on card stock for a sturdier hold up.  You could use a Mason jar, a peanut butter jar you’ve cleaned out, or an old spaghetti sauce jar you’ve washed.
2.  Cut apart the dates and the jar label with scissors or a paper cutter.
3.  Fold the strips of paper and drop them in the jar.  I found that folding them in fourths worked the best.  They stuck together when I folded them in half and it was hard to pull out just one slip of paper.
4.  You may want to spray paint the lid of your jar or cover it with scrapbook paper.
5.  Tie your Baker’s twine around the jar and affix the label to your jar with tape or glue.  You could even use clear contact paper for a more waterproof label.

If you’re interested in different date ideas or more ideas for a larger kit, you can purchase 32 more date night strips from my While He Was Napping Etsy Shop.  Files are instant download, so you’ll have them in your hot little hands (or on your hot little hard drive, as the case may be) as soon as your payment is processed!

Happy Dating!

Weekend Wander #110

Welcome, Party Peeps.  I hope your week was fantastic.  We got to spend Monday with Mr. Napping and my parents took us to the local Fun Center.  Little Monkey was in heaven riding the Indy cars with Dad and Grandpa.  Side note: he called them Indian cars first.  Hehe.  And Tuesday we found out what gender baby my brother and sister-in-law are expecting in June.  But more on that this next week…

Here’s a couple of shout outs from last week:

If you’d like to pin any of these fabulous ideas, please pin from the original source, thanks!

Mr Napping would be all over this Slow Cooker Parmesan Chicken that Whitney shares at Five Minutes for Mommy.  I’ll have to add it to our menu planning.

Get Your Valentine inspiration a-going with this awesome Valentine’s mantle Bethany from Sweet Bee Buzzings has put together.  Click over and check out how awesome this looks with the lights off!

Carrie from Saving4Six shared this amazing closet organization… I wish she’d come do my closets…
If you missed it this year, mark January 19th on your calendars next year.  National Popcorn Day!  Lori has an awesome caramel popcorn recipe she’s shared and I don’t think I’ll wait til next year to try it.
For even more Valentine inspiration, grab one of these cute Valentine printables that Tracy shared over on Made From Pinterest.

I also have a request………. If you link up, would you mind listing my link party in your post or on your sidebar or a link party page.  I’d like to get the word out and see if we can increase the number of link-ups.

And thanks to everyone who voted in the poll last week.  The majority consensus among those who voted was to keep Weekend Wander going.  So, unless the link-up number decreases, I guess that’s what we will do.

Ok, enough yammering… Link ’em!
