This is a super simple way to dress up an old recipe box. My mom gave me this when I was like 12 or 13. I started collecting recipes and putting them in this box. I got most of them at Young Women’s activities from church. I didn’t avidly collect until I moved out and got married. And most of that was calling my mom to get the recipes I grew up with! This would be a great Christmas gift for someone who is getting ready to graduate or get married. And what an easy way to personalize it!
First, take a recipe box. I’m pretty sure you can get these at craft stores. I don’t know a price range. Mine was a gift. See how old and ragged it’s looking…
Choose some scrap book paper. And grab one of my best friends, Modge Podge.
Measure your sides. I actually did three pieces. 1) The top of the box. 2) The back and right side of the box. 3) The front and left side of the box. Less seams this way.
I laid down a coat of Modge Podge on the box and then postitioned my paper on top. Press down firmly, especially around the edges. Let dry. You could also do a layer of Modge Podge on top of the paper, but I like the finish matte and all I have is glossy Modge Podge. So I skipped this step. Repeat with all the sides, until your box is completely covered. I didn’t cover the bottom, but you totally could.
This is so much more “me”. I love it! It totally doesn’t go with my future kitchen decor (our dishes are blue and brown…well, now they are probably gray from sitting in storage getting covered in dust) but I’m very happy with it.
