Bow Tie Onesies

So, WAAAY back in January my friend had an adorable little boy.  And I was in need of a gift for this little guy.  I did some sitting on my thinking chair, put on my thinking cap and then tried both at once and finally came up with an idea.  I was still pregnant with Little Gator and got about 15 seconds to myself in the day still (unlike now… they never coordinate anything) so I whipped this little baby up.

It was fairly simple and didn’t take a ton of time, which is always good in my book.  I’m an A.D.D. crafter and even if I have the attention span required, my boys usually need something before I get finished.

Supplies:
– Scissors
– Felt
– Needle
– Thread
– Snap or Velcro
– Onesie or other shirt (or headband or alligator clip or hair elastic or whatever you want to attach your bow to.)

1.  Cut a rectangle from your felt approximately 3 inches wide and about 4 inches tall.  Cut a small strip of felt about .5 inch thick and about 2 inches tall.
2.  Fold the rectangle accordion-style about three times to make the bow.  Remember folding fans when you were younger (or when you’re sitting in church and it’s like a thousand degrees and, for some reason, the heater keeps kicking on… yeah, those fans), it’s just like that.
3.  Take the small strip of felt and wrap it around the middle of your fan-folded felt.  Cut off any excess felt from the strip.
4.  Take the needle and thread and stitch the ends of the skinny strip together to hold it around the middle of your fan.  Be sure to secure well.
5.  Stitch your snap or velcro to the back of the bow, over the stitches you just made to hold the skinny strip in place.  Make sure your snap faces the right way and will still attach to the other side once it’s sewn to the onesie (or what have you).  It’s good to make sure the velcro is going the correct way as well, although this is a little more obvious.
6.  Stitch the other side of the snap or velcro to your onesie (or whatever).  Attach the bow to your shirt and ta-da.  You’ve got one snazzy little bow tie onesie that any little dude will look totally fabulous in.

** If you opt for an alligator clip, you can hot glue or stitch it to the back of you bow after step 4.  Disregard the remaining steps.

You can purchase pre-made bow ties from my Etsy shop.  It doesn’t take long, but if hand-sewing isn’t your thing, let me do the work for you.  Bulk orders receive discounts.  Unfortunately, you have to sew the snap on yourself… patents and all that legal garbage, but I will include them in your order if you’d like.

I'm Krista. Ringleader here on While He Was Napping, wife to my handsome Mr. Right & momma to my THREE energetic boys, Big J (9), Little J (6) & Little N (4). We FINALLY added a beautiful little girl to our family last December.

I’m knee-deep in Tonka trucks & Thomas trains. I survive our crazy days with Vanilla Coke, Sonic slushies, sweet snuggles and little giggles. When I tuck them in tight & kiss them good night, I get a little time to create & just be me.
